Auckland Regional Parks
We all know that getting out and about in nature is good for the soul, but never more so than when you live in the city.
Aucklanders are fortunate to have access to 28 regional parks that are open to the public and free to use, encouraging family time, BBQs, sport, play and relaxation. These parks ensure that Auckland is one of the most liveable cities and to continue this legacy, the Auckland Regional Council works hard to maintain them.
Ecosystem – local expertise
Auckland’s coastal regional parks are truly a slice of ecological paradise, and Kauri Park is proud to have worked on projects in Duder, Waitawa and Tapapakanga on Auckland’s east coast, planting large swathes of native revegetation to restore these beautiful ecosystems. The challenge of planting for these harsh coastal conditions means extra care must be taken when selecting and growing plant species. Kauri Park ecosources seed from the Hunua and Firth of Thames regions, growing them in conditions that mimic the conditions they will be exposed to once planted to maximise resilience. Working alongside the Regional Parks, Park Managers, Rangers, and interest groups, including some dignitaries who have been very passionate about these projects means we can benefit from local knowledge and expertise, often passed down by generations.
Ecovitalism – legacy
The necessary development in our cities means that green spaces are diminishing, making regional parks more important than ever. These slices of coastal paradise and idyllic natural settings on Auckland’s east coast are world-class in nature's beauty and we are playing our part in ensuring that generations to come will be able get away from the hard concrete lines of urbanisation and be amongst the perfection and balance of nature.
