Carex buchananii

Buchanans sedge, cutty grass

Carex buchananii is an upright tufted sedge with reddish brown foliage, grows to about 75cm tall, with the flowering stems usually shorter than the leaves. The fine leaf tips are blond and curled, adding to the plants distinctive appearance.

Found in localised areas of the lower North Island and eastern South Island. In the garden it makes an excellent contrast plant. It is tolerant of a wide range of conditions, but is happiest in full sun with some moisture.
