Carex testacea is a densely tufted sedge with fine narrow arching leaves with brownish to orange green tips. It grows 50-60cm tall, and flowering stems eventually elongate across the ground. In nature it is found throughout New Zealand in forests, tussock land and sand dunes. It can withstand quite dry conditions, and the best foliage colouring is produced in full sun.
