Machaerina juncea

Baumea juncea, Sedge, tussock swamp twig rush

Machaerina juncea is an ornamental rush-like plant with fine bluish green foliage growing up to 1m tall. The inflorescences have rusty brown bracts at the joints, and the flowering spikelets are a similar colour. It is most common in swampy areas from North Cape to the Bay of Plenty and then becomes less common in the rest of the country. It does best in full sun in very wet or swampy areas; however it will grow in moderately dry soils, albeit at a slower rate.
