Male and female flowers occur on separate plants and it is the female that bears the well known and distinctive spiny seedheads that blow like tumbleweed across the sand. In nature spinifex helps bind and stabilise the sand dunes, and this is the purpose for which it is currently planted. Propagation by seed, rooted pieces or cuttings.
