Hebe topiaria

Hebe topiaria is a compact ball-shaped shrub growing up to 1m, found in mountains of the South Island from Canterbury northwards. It has small glaucous leaves, and the white flowers appear in early summer , seldom abundant in warmer areas.

H.topiaria can be clipped and used as low hedging, but its naturally tight habit means pruning is usually unnecessary. It also makes an excellent specimen or contrast plant against other foliage.
